Fortis Hospital, Bannerghatta Road, Launches Dedicated Stroke Clinic for Evaluation and Management of Cerebrovascular Conditions

Bengaluru : Fortis Hospital, Bannerghatta Road, has launched a dedicated Stroke Clinic for the evaluation and management of stroke and related cerebrovascular conditions affecting the blood vessels supplying the brain. Led by Dr Amit Kulkarni, Director – Neurology & Clinical Lead – Stroke Services, the clinic will provide clinical assessment and individualised treatment planning based on each patient’s condition.

The clinic will evaluate patients for conditions affecting blood flow to the brain, including narrowing or blockages in blood vessels. Investigations and treatment recommendations will depend on the patient’s symptoms, medical history and clinical findings, with coordination across relevant specialities where required.

Stroke is a medical emergency. Sudden loss of balance, changes in vision, facial drooping, arm weakness or speech difficulty require immediate medical attention, even if symptoms improve. The BE FAST approach helps people recognise these warning signs: Balance, Eyes, Face, Arms, Speech and Time to seek emergency care. Anyone experiencing these symptoms should seek emergency medical assistance immediately rather than wait for a clinic appointment.

Alongside the launch, the hospital conducted stroke-awareness activities throughout October across six residential communities in Bengaluru: Nandi Citadel, Brigade Gardenia, Esteem Enclave, Mantri Paradise, L&T South City and SNN Raj Serenity. Doctor-led sessions, educational skits and informational flyers focused on recognising warning signs and responding promptly.

Dr Amit Kulkarni, Director – Neurology & Clinical Lead – Stroke Services, Fortis Hospital, Bannerghatta Road, said, “Recognising sudden neurological symptoms and seeking emergency care without delay are important because stroke treatment depends on the type of stroke, the time since symptoms began and the patient’s clinical condition. Evaluation involves assessing blood flow to the brain and identifying the underlying cause. The Stroke Clinic will support structured assessment and individualised treatment planning. In addition to acute stroke evaluation and management, the clinic will place emphasis on stroke prevention through lifestyle modification and risk-factor management. For patients experiencing post-stroke spasticity, treatment options such as Botox injections, along with appropriate rehabilitative care, will also be an important focus. Any decision about a procedure or intervention will follow clinical evaluation and discussion with the patient and family.”

Dr Ananth N Rao, Regional Director – Operations, Fortis Hospitals, Bengaluru, said, “Stroke care requires coordination across relevant medical specialities. The clinic brings a structured approach to assessment and treatment planning for patients with cerebrovascular conditions. Our outreach activities have complemented this effort by helping communities understand stroke warning signs and the importance of seeking emergency medical attention.”

Mr Gautham CB, Facility Director, Fortis Hospital, Bannerghatta Road, said, “Through our interactions with residential communities, we focused on practical information that residents and caregivers can use to recognise a possible stroke and respond promptly. The sessions also provided an opportunity to address questions and reinforce the need to seek medical attention even when symptoms appear to resolve.”

The initiative combines clinical services with community education on recognising stroke symptoms and seeking appropriate medical care.
