The Biggest Marketing Skills Gap Isn’t Creativity. It’s AI Systems Thinking.

Generative AI has become mainstream in marketing, but strategic adoption still lags. According to the SAS & Coleman Parkes Research Global GenAI Survey (2025), 85% of marketers now use GenAI, with 94% reporting improved personalisation and 90% citing greater efficiency.

Meanwhile, Gartner’s 2025 CMO Spend Survey found that digital channels account for 61.1% of total marketing spend. Yet over half (51.5%) of marketing teams still report an AI skills gap (Marketing Week, 2025). The challenge is no longer using AI tools like ChatGPT, but building scalable, AI-powered marketing ecosystems that integrate MarTech, analytics, automation, customer data, and Agentic AI to deliver measurable business outcomes.

Recognising this shift, IIM Indore, has announced Batch 18 of the Executive Programme in Digital Marketing with AI & MarTech. The 20-week online programme is designed to help professionals build end-to-end capabilities across digital marketing, AI, MarTech, analytics, automation, and customer lifecycle management through a structured learning framework rather than isolated tool training.

Unlike traditional digital marketing programmes, the curriculum embeds AI throughout the learning journey instead of treating it as a standalone module. Organised across 19 modules and six learning pillars, it spans digital marketing foundations, AI readiness, performance channels, growth marketing, customer lifecycle management, MarTech architecture, analytics, and strategic marketing. Participants also gain exposure to more than 20 industry tools, including ChatGPT, Claude, HubSpot, Salesforce, Google Ads, Meta Ads, GA4, Looker Studio, SEMrush, Ahrefs, Zapier, Make, Canva, Snap AR, and others used across modern marketing organisations.

One of the programme’s defining strengths is its hands-on, application-first approach. Participants move beyond theory to build AI-powered marketing solutions, gain practical exposure to emerging technologies, and apply their learning through an end-to-end capstone project.

Key highlights include:

•             Three AI Marketing Workshops where participants:

1)           Build an AI marketing agent

2)           Create an AI-powered analytics dashboard using GA4 and Looker Studio

3)           Develop a multi-channel MarTech automation engine

•             Dedicated Agentic AI learning covering autonomous workflows, multi-agent systems, AI-driven decision-making, and real-time campaign optimisation.

•             A one-week capstone project to design, execute, and present an AI-driven marketing campaign, from strategy and MarTech integration to performance measurement.

•             A curriculum that integrates strategy, AI, analytics, and MarTech into one cohesive marketing framework.

•             Backed by IIM Indore, one of the few business schools globally to hold the Triple Crown accreditation (EQUIS, AACSB, and AMBA), underscoring its global academic excellence.

Professor Manoj Motiani, a member of the programme’s esteemed faculty shares his perspective on what defines modern marketing leadership:

“Digital marketing is no longer about mastering individual channels in isolation. Today’s marketers must understand how strategy, AI, MarTech, analytics, and customer behaviour come together to create measurable business impact. That is why this programme has been designed with a strong emphasis on application, enabling participants to move beyond concepts and build capabilities they can apply immediately in the workplace.”

Delivered over 20 weeks, the programme combines faculty-led recorded lectures with three live AI Marketing Workshops, three live masterclasses, weekly office hours, and a capstone project, requiring an average commitment of 4–5 hours per week. Participants who successfully complete the programme earn a certificate from IIM Indore, with the option to apply separately for Executive Education Alumni Status, alongside access to Emeritus Career Services for resume building, LinkedIn optimisation, and interview preparation.

The learning experience is further strengthened by IIM Indore’s growing global recognition. Ranked #62 globally and #2 in India for its Executive Education Programmes (Open) in the Financial Times Executive Education Rankings 2026, the institute is also among India’s select Triple Crown-accredited business schools, holding accreditations from EQUIS, AACSB, and AMBA. These globally recognised distinctions reflect IIM Indore’s commitment to academic excellence and reinforce the long-term value of the programme, offering participants an internationally respected learning experience, enhanced professional credibility, and access to a globally recognised institution.

As AI becomes embedded across every stage of the customer journey, the competitive advantage in marketing will no longer come from simply using AI tools. It will come from understanding how to build the systems, workflows, and measurement frameworks that allow AI to deliver growth at scale. For marketing professionals, that distinction may well define the next decade of their careers.
