Hyderabad: As economic activity slowly resumes across the globe, Indeed, the world’s #1 job website reviewed cross-border search data to understand the most sought-after international destinations by the Indian talent.

Tech and Engineering jobs lead overall search activity from India

The search activity from India for jobs in other countries was highest between November 2019- April 2020, where it witnessed a 72% jump. The search activity thereafter steadily declined and the momentum failed to pick up. Comparison shows, the search activity has been stagnant between November 2019 to October 2021. This stagnancy can largely be attributed to the disruptions caused by the first and the second waves of COVID-19 that muted the talent mobility, globally.

It has also been observed since 2019, that the majority of Indian job seekers have typically accounted for tech roles.

Where do Indians want to work

Indian job seekers show a keen inclination towards working in countries like the USA, Canada, the UK, as well as the Middle East region. Indeed’s data shows, over 40% of Indians searched for jobs in the United States, making it the most popular destination between 2019-2021. Canada with its immigration friendly policies was the second most favourite option for Indians, though search interest was less than half of the USA at 16%.

United Arab Emirates (14%), with its constantly improving readiness of skilled labour, pushed Great Britain (14%) to fourth position followed by Qatar (3%) and Singapore (3%) contesting for fifth place to complete the top five global destinations list. Australia emerged as the close 6th place.

Interestingly Qatar which was on the seventh spot during November 2019 – October 2020 overtook Australia and Singapore to make it to the top five global destinations during November 2020- October 2021.

What roles are Indian’s looking for

Some of the most popular job roles among job seekers looking to immigrate to the above countries include tech jobs such as Software Engineer, Full Stack Developer, Data Analyst, and so on; as well as customer-facing roles such as Customer Service Representative, etc and light skilled jobs such as Drivers. While the former roles are concentrated in the USA, North America, UK, the latter are concentrated in the Gulf region.

As a group, Indian job seekers are highly focused on tech and engineering in their job searches – almost the majority of all clicks on US-based jobs from India are related to tech roles, which involve technology and language skills.
