Anyone Can be Santa: MPS launches the JoyBox initiative to help the less privileged during Christmas
New Delhi: In a bid to make this Christmas merry for the underprivileged, Modern Public School, Shalimar Bagh, New Delhi, has launched an initiative under the moniker of JoyBox. The initiative gives the students and their parents a chance to play Santa Claus this Christmas by cheering up the less fortunate ones.
Modern Public School is doing so by inviting all its students to make “Joy Boxes” which would contain useful items like clothes, soaps, toothbrushes, toothpaste, stationery items, toys, blankets, etc. The school will then distribute these boxes to the less privileged areas in the Delhi-NCR region.
When it comes to helping fellow country folks, Modern Public School has always been on the frontline. Even during the worst of the pandemic – the lockdown period – the school converted three of its buses named Roti Bank on Wheels, Science Park on Wheels, and Library on Wheels into modular food distribution and education dissemination units that circuited the poverty and hunger-stricken areas near the school and distributed food, education, and happiness.
Now that Christmas is around the corner, the school has taken this opportunity to put the JoyBox initiative into action. The school has laid down a certain set of instructions to help the students create their own Joy Boxes that will bring happiness and sunshine to the lives of those who’ve been struggling with darkness. Perhaps this initiative could be used as a universal template and adopted by other schools or good Samaritans who want to help their fellow citizens at this difficult time.
Talking about the JoyBox initiative, Alka Kapur, Principal, Modern Public School, said, “To help a fellow human in need is one of the best things that a person can do in his/her life. This is the spirit that we seek to inculcate among our students so that they can become forward-thinking citizens who contribute to the growth and success of the country. Our personal success doesn’t amount to much if we leave our fellow brothers and sisters behind. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to enjoy the privileges of life have a moral obligation to help out those who haven’t been so lucky. I believe this initiative will not only bring some light into the lives of the less privileged but it will also teach a valuable lesson of compassion to our own students .
