NeighborWorks® Housing Solutions (NHS; www.nhsmass.org), the leading housing service provider in southern Massachusetts, gratefully welcomed staff members from Envision Bank (www.envisionbank.com) who recently put their reorganizing skills to work at the NHS Winter Street housing site in Quincy.
”We were delighted to come out and volunteer with NHS,” said Richard Olson, SVP of Retail Banking at Envision Bank. “All of us at Envision Bank are proud to help our neighbors.”
The six volunteers from Envision Bank joined NHS and spent the day sorting donations, setting up a new pantry, and reorganizing the library in the common area of the Winter Street building. The library had been closed to residents during the pandemic, and only recently reopened. The volunteers carefully sorted the books, removing the significantly damaged ones and replacing them with new and gently used books that had been donated by the Envision team and community.
The volunteers also helped put together shelving that will serve as the building’s community pantry. Volunteers unloaded and stored nonperishable food that had been recently donated from the Germantown Neighborhood Center. In the future this pantry will also store donations of diapers, feminine hygiene supplies, school supplies, socks and other items tenants need and often have trouble accessing regularly.
“It was great working with the Envision Bank volunteers,” said Indira Pereira, property manager at Maloney Properties, which oversees the Winter Street building. “The volunteers did such a great job with the library and pantry. This means so much to the families that live here. I cannot thank Envision enough for their help.”
