Bangalore : Manipal Hospitals, Whitefield, today announced the appointment of renowned Oncologist Dr. Rajashekar C Jaka, as Consultant Surgical Oncologist. He has wide experience in robotic surgeries for the treatment of oncological conditions. Dr. Jaka is a breast cancer surgeon with extensive experience in breast conservation & sentinel lymph node biopsy. He has expertise in the field of robotic and laparoscopic surgeries and has performed many complex surgeries with ease and utmost care. He is also an expert in intraperitoneal chemotherapy & HIPEC (Hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy).
Prior to joining Manipal Hospitals, Dr. Rajashekar C Jaka was the H.O.D of Surgical Oncology at Sparsh Hospital, Bangalore. He was also associated with the Primary Health Unit, Government of Karnataka, Manipal Hospitals, HCG Bangalore, and Fortis Hospital. He also served as Professor at SDU Medical College, Kolar. A Gynaecology Onco-surgeon with a special interest in ovary, endometrium and cervical cancer, Dr. Jaka actively volunteers for free cancer check-up camps, mostly in the rural areas of India in order to spread awareness about cancer.

While doing his MBBS he earned the Psychiatry prize – the first to the state in the year 2000. After completing MBBS, he went on to do MS (General Surgery) from RGUHS, Bangalore. This he completed in the year 2006. In 2007, he took DNB in General Surgery & Surgical Oncology from the National Board of Examination, New Delhi. This was followed by a stint abroad. He received a fellowship in Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgical Oncology from Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Buffalo, New York, in 2012. In 2015, Dr. Rajashekar Jaka was awarded the “Millennium Gold Medal” for “Total Robotic Three-stage Esophagectomy”.
Considering Dr. Jaka’s achievements, the Surgical Society of Bangalore appointed him Joint Secretary in 2016, and promoted him to the post of Secretary in 2018. He also served as a National EC Member of the Association of Breast Surgeons of India (ABSI) from 2016 to 2017, and Bangalore Oncology Group from 2016 to 2018. He mentored a number of students while serving as Director of Education and Training at ABSI. Besides these, he was appointed Chairman of Sankalpa Chase Cancer Foundation and Research Trust, Bangalore.
