Seaside at Scituate Community Raises $5520 for Scituate Community Christmas

SCITUATE …Seaside at Scituate, an active adult community, recently held a fundraiser for Scituate Community Christmas raising $5520 for families in need.

The Seaside at Scituate Community worked through the holiday season to raise awareness for the local charitable work provided by Scituate Community Christmas and collect gift cards and donations for the non-profit organization. Last season the Volunteer Committee raised $3500 for the organization.

“The Seaside community has been an incredible supporter of Scituate Community Christmas.  Their commitment to our mission of helping those in need in our community has been invaluable.  Through donations, volunteer hours, and raising awareness, they have demonstrated a sincere desire to make a positive impact on our town and those who live in it,” said Emily Anderson, SCC Fundraising Chair.

In 2022 Scituate Community Christmas supported nearly 70 families with holiday assistance. The organization helped those in need with gift cards for gas, groceries, haircuts, personal care items and more. They provided toys, prepared meals, clothing, furniture, educational activities, transportation and appliances.

Some specific projects during the 2022 year include:

  • Providing gift cards to a single mom with a job interview to purchase business attire.
  • Providing desks so that students working hard to succeed in school have a quiet place to work at home.
  • Providing gas gift cards for a father to have transportation to his place of employment.
  • Providing restaurant gift cards so a college student paying for their own tuition can get a hot meal.
  • Providing dorm room essentials to the first child in her family to go to college.
  • Purchasing a train ticket so a student come home to Scituate for the holidays.
  • Purchasing a kitchen appliance for a newly single mother of three who has her own place for the first time in her life.

This year the Seaside Volunteer Committee also held a raffle and raised $1265 for the Senior Center. The donation will allow the Senior Center an opportunity to expand their Life Long Learning Program. In addition the group held a book drive collecting 158 new books for children and senior citizens distributed through Scituate Community Christmas.

The Seaside Volunteer Committee also serves to raise awareness for local non-profits so that residents have an opportunity to give back to the community and donate their time, talent and resources. The mission is to develop partnerships with local “helping” organizations and to provide resources to assist with their needs.  They also seek to understand the needs of organizations whether they are “done in a day” or “hands on” activities and bring those to members of the community who may be interested in participating.

“We work with existing Scituate organizations to learn about their needs and how we can assist them. We are so grateful that these resources exist and that we have the opportunity to support them.”

The Mission of Scituate Community Christmas is to meet the needs of the community at Christmastime and throughout the year by supporting families during times of hardship while inspiring the values of kindness, compassion, philanthropy and volunteerism. The Susan Phippen House, home of Scituate Community Christmas, serves as an anchor by providing a warm, welcoming space for outreach and giving while connecting people with charitable organizations to promote the common good. Through year round giving, they provide ongoing support—whether that means paying utility bills, providing gas or grocery gift cards, or supplying small appliances. This past year, they have quietly helped more than 400 households right here in Scituate.
