The Visual Arts Commission in Collaboration with the Fashion Commission, Launches the Second Edition of the “Intermix Residency

Art & Fashion Reimagined” Program

Riyadh: The Visual Arts Commission in collaboration with the Fashion Commission, announced the launch of the second edition of the Intermix Residency | Art & Fashion Reimagined Program that will take place in Riyadh’s creative district JAX, located in the Ad Diriyah district. The program includes a series of fully funded residencies that provide time, space, and collaboration opportunities for visual art and fashion design professionals to support their creative development.

The program includes three residency cycles, each of which lasts 10 weeks. The first cycle will run from October 22nd, 2023, to January 4th, 2024, with the second and third cycles set to be announced later this year. Each residency cycle will welcome 15 participants, a blend of Saudi nationals, residents, and internationals practitioners.

This art residency provides support to artists, fashion designers, and curators who aim to develop their creative projects by giving them the opportunity to work alongside peers, other professionals, experts, and the local communities. In doing so, it creates a dynamic environment for critical, technical, and professional growth within a collaborative exchange model.

The program is open to local and international emerging and mid-career artists, fashion designers, and curators who are driven to explore ways in which their work can be applied to the local context, with a focus on the topics of innovation, transformation, and sustainability.

Along with studio space, the residency includes a fixed monthly stipend to cover living expenses, accommodation within walking distance of the working studios, travel costs, and a cultural trip outside of Riyadh.  Additionally, the program allows artists to apply for a production grant to help fund the realization of their project. Grant requests are evaluated on a case-by-case basis, based on the actual needs of the participants’ projects.

Applicants must provide detailed information about their previous professional experiences, interests, and creative practices when applying.  All applicants must also demonstrate recent artistic practice by providing a detailed description of their projects, exhibitions, and/or texts, publications, and research they have developed or in which they have participated. They must also state their motivation for applying for this Residency Program. More information on the submission requirements and eligibility criteria can be found on the website.

The applications to participate can be submitted via this link: https://engage.moc.gov.sa/moc-intermix-recidency-2023, during the registration period. The evaluation process will be conducted by a committee composed of experts and specialists in the fields of visual arts and fashion design.
