Chennai: India’s fastest growing premium video-on-demand service Voot Select is set to enthrall its users with the new spine-chilling thriller series ‘CANDY’. Directed by Ashish R. Shukla, Voot Select’s latest offering CANDY, a highly anticipated murder mystery starring Richa Chadha and Ronit Roy is ready to keep you on the edge of your seats starting September 8th, 2021
Set against a picturesque backdrop of a boarding school in the mountains, CANDY revolves around drugs, politics, ambition, a gory murder, and a series of secrets wrapped around a ‘CANDY’. In the mists of Rudrakund, the gruesome murder of a school student pushes troubled teacher Jayant Parekh (Ronit Roy) and local cop Ratna Sankhawar(Richa Chadha) to unravel a web of disturbing secrets that involve rave parties in the hills, cold cases from the past, malevolent demons in the woods and a hallucinogen smuggled under the garb of Candy. While one section of the society is petrified about the mystery killings and the rumors revolving around an evil force, the others try and solve the mystery behind the drug infused candy sold to school kids. With infinite twists and turns, CANDY is a thrilling journey through the world of dark secrets where sins dwell.
Speaking about the experience directing the show Director Ashish R. Shukla said “It was great directing a stellar and talented star cast for a show like Candy that is so intense ans layered. Richa and Ronit have been fantastic and very collaborative. Shooting in the biting winters in Nainital was very challenging and intense but the entire cast was able to triumphantly channel the same into their acting. The brilliant output is here for all to see. The show is intriguing, thrilling and will keep the audience hooked till the very end. I am very excited to see how people will respond to our show.”
Speaking about playing a cop, actor Richa Chadha says, “I am enthralled with the response the trailer has received. As an artist, I have always enjoyed exploring and experimenting with various mediums and essaying characters that are multidimensional. I am playing a cop for the first time and playing DSP Ratna was a challenge. She is a determined cop with a troubling past who has vowed to unwrap the sins of Rudrakund, and I am glad I got to play such an intriguing and layered character in Voot Select’s CANDY. I am confident of the project; my gut tells me it’s a winner”
Actor Ronit Roy, portraying the role of Jayant Parekh, has already intrigued the viewers with this on-screen presence in CANDY’s trailer. Elated to be part of a stellar cast, Ronit says, “Sharing screen space with so many talented actors and working with director Ashish R. Shukla has been a great experience. Playing Jayant and understanding the layers of the character has been an enthralling journey for me as an actor. The plot of CANDY will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat and I am really looking forward to unwrapping the sin with the viewers.”
The eight-part series, CANDY is produced by Wakaoo Films and directed by Ashish R Shukla. With Richa Chadha and Ronit Roy in lead roles, the show also features Manu Rishi Chadha, Gopal Datt Tiwari, Nakul Roshan Sahdev and Riddhi Kumar in prominent roles.
